How To Get Rid of Ants

[kkstarratings]

Many species of ants are beneficial and kill pests like fleas and bedbugs. But that’s no consolation when they start to go under your door and invade your kitchen cabinets.

Ants are attracted by the desire to find food, so you should be alert to the need to store food carefully and create barriers that prevent ants even from realising that they have treats available. Here are some ideas to get rid of ants in your house.

Repels ants who want to enter the house:

The best way to eliminate a pest at home is to prevent it from coming inside in the first place. Make barricades at home. Since ants are tiny, they can find hundreds of entries that lead to the inside of your residence.

Some of these are easy to identify, while others can only be discovered when there is a parade of ants marching through an entry.

Use caulk:

Ensure the windows, doors and any cracks through which ants crawl are sealed with caulk. An additional benefit of doing this is a better temperature control and lower energy bills. Besides, it is one of the least risky methods when there are children or pets.

The tailor’s chalk and baby powder contain talc and can be used to create a barrier for ants. These can be sprinkled on the routes ants use to dissuade them, especially at house entrances and windowsills.

Regardless of how talc is used, be aware that there are concerns about the carcinogenic potential of this if you breathe it. Use a mask as a precaution if you’re worried.

Apply flavouring that ants do not like. Vinegar, peppermint oil, cinnamon, black pepper, cayenne pepper are all examples of what is said to have worked in a variety of claims. However, some of these may be harmful to pets and irritating to curious children.

Block the landscape:

Ants often enter houses through the nearby bushes, vegetation or overhanging trees. To eliminate this problem, create a free boundary by cutting or removing overhanging trees, the vegetation that has contact with your home and setting up perimeter gravel or rock plants.

Sometimes you need to kill the ants when they are a pest, and there is no end in sight. It is the least desirable option, but should be considered when they are in your house constantly.

Eliminate the trail of ants. A line of ants can be treated efficiently and quickly, killing mostly on the line and deterring others to continue no longer on the path.

It is recommended to start by locating the first entry point and create a barrier immediately, with a line of Vaseline, with the adhesive tape or talc, so that the ants that are out cannot use the entrance to hide. Then use one of the methods below to deal with the trail of ants.

Dip a sponge in soapy water. Simply pass the sponge along the way, collecting ants. Rinse the sponge and let the ants go down the drain. Rinse and repeat as necessary until you have removed all the ants on the trail.

Spray the track with a multipurpose cleaner or bleach solution. Wipe clean with a damp paper towel.

Spraying the nest can be effective, but you should make sure you eliminate all of them, otherwise, if any survive, they could escape and establish new colonies in various areas, which would be counterproductive.

Kill the scouts:

Colonies regularly send solitary ants to check for food sources. If you see a single ant passing by your table, do not let them return to the nest alive. It will tell the colony where spilt apple juice is. If the explorer returns to the nest and brings some friends back with it, they will be following a scent trail in a single row. Unless you’re prepared to bait them, kill them all quickly.

If you have ants in your pantry or other space in the cupboard, you must use an attractive poison to catch ants scurrying in their mission of hunting food.

The most common bait is mixing boric acid or borax with water and sugar (or sugar confectionery/icing sugar). Boric acid affects the ants externally and internally (when ingested). Make a mixture of 1 cup water, two cups sugar and two tablespoons of boric acid.

Wait for the ants appear. Do not place new ants bait because it could attract new colonies. Once you have a trail, put the bait near it. It can also be placed in a secure part of the pantry where the ants appear to be congregating.

Put the bait in a jam jar if you have pets or children around. Screw the lid tightly over and seal with tape. Punch two or three small holes in the lid and smear outside with some bait.

If you’re worried that the bottle could fall and that the poisoned bait could spill, lightly pack the jar from inside with cotton balls.

You can also mix peanut butter. Cravings of ants vary depending on the needs of the colony (sometimes they want sweet, sometimes something oily).

If you provide both, it increases the likelihood that they take the bait. Once you have achieved what you need, remove all the bait. You do not want to attract a neighbouring colony.

Consider using homemade bait borax. Use a tablespoon of peanut butter, two tablespoons sugar, two teaspoons borax and a teaspoon of water.

Mix these well. Place a small amount of this mixture into tiny pieces of cardboard where ants show activity. Look how they move in packs and take them back to the nest. If kills ants very fast. Ideally, this mixture will eliminate the colony and the queen.
